Halal and Haram
The word Halal is an Arabic word which can be translated by “permitted” and “admissible”.
Foodstuffs that are in accordance with the Islamic regulations are called “halal” or “halal food”.
The Arabic term “haram” means the opposite of halal (forbidden).
Foodstuffs that are not in accordance to the Islamic regulations are called haram. The catefory “makruh” is between halal and haram, which means “frown upon”, and should be avoided.
Generally, all food is allowed except for food that is explicitly forbidden.
